Alumna Cassie Beasley returns to Georgia Southern for bestselling book reading

Georgia Southern University graduate and bestselling author Cassie Beasley will be on campus for a book reading Wednesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. in the Information Technology Building, room 1005.

Circus Mirandus is the debut novel from Beasley, a graduate of the University’s Department of Writing and Linguistics, and is intended for middle-schoolers, although the book is enjoyable for all ages.

Beasley will read from her book Circus Mirandus, which was published in 2015 to critical acclaim and was named a New York Times Editor’s Choice and a New York Times Book Review Notable Children’s Book of 2015. The book also has received positive reviews from Kirkus Books and School Library Journal.

The book tells the story of fifth-grader Micah Tuttle, his beloved Grandpa Ephraim, his prickly Aunt Gertrudis and his courageous new friend Jenny Mendoza. Over the years, Micah has heard all about the mysterious Circus Mirandus and the equally mysterious Man Who Bends Light, also known as the Lightbender. When Micah’s grandfather was very young, the Lightbender promised him a miracle. Now, many decades later, Grandpa Ephraim needs that miracle, and Micah desperately wants him to have it. So Micah and Jenny set out on a daring quest to find the Circus Mirandus and the Lightbender.
