Within this setting, the mission of the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies is to develop, nurture, promote, and sustain graduate programs of the highest quality at Georgia Southern University. The College of Graduate Studies seeks to support graduate students and graduate programs at the highest level, to provide a foundation for university graduate program growth and development, and to support excellence in graduate education and the research and scholarly activities associated with it.

Position Description. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of Graduate Studies requires administrative and service responsibilities along with a terminal degree. Primary responsibilities include daily operational management of the College of Graduate Studies, oversight of graduate student grievance and appeal processes, serving as the liaison with the other colleges on campus, and representing the Graduate College on various committees and programs. The position also holds faculty rank as appropriate to credentials. The position is a fiscal year (12 month) appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Terminal degree in a discipline offered by Georgia Southern University. Experience in supporting graduate education in a higher education setting.

Strong understanding of academic policies, procedures, and culture along with demonstrated experience advising students and graduate faculty on highly complex, confidential matters.

Highly motivated, flexible, adaptable and service-oriented, with strong collaborative skills for team work and consensus building among staff and faculty.

Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others. Ability to set priorities and multitask.

Excellent communication, management and leadership skills.

Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching at the graduate level.

Experience working with a diverse student and faculty population.

Screening of applications begins January 15, 2017, and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is no later than July 1, 2017.
