Applicants to the College of Graduate Studies must hold a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of a higher degree from an institution accredited by the proper regional accrediting association.  Each applicant must file an application for admission with the Office of Admissions. Applicants must follow the admission procedures specified in the University Catalog, College of Graduate Studies web site or listed at the degree program web site.

  • Completed Graduate Application for Admission
  • $50 Application fee
  • Official transcripts from each college/university previously attended
  • Official admission test scores as required for the degree

Immunization Documentation:
All graduate students are required to provide documentation of immunization to be eligible to enroll in classes per the Board of Regents policy.  Students enrolled in completely on-line graduate programs are exempt from submitting the Immunization Documentation as long as they do not attend class on campus.  These programs include: MED Instructional Technology, WebMBA, and MS Kinesiology-Coaching.

Students may access immunization information at the Health Services web site at
http://services.georgiasouthern.edu/aux/health/index.php

The Certificate of immunization form can be found at http://services.georgiasouthern.edu/aux/health/imm_forms.php

Admission Test Scores
Official standardized test scores* are required for admission to all graduate degree programs with the exception of the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and the Master of Music (MM).  Currently the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and Miller Analogies Test (MAT) are the standardized admission tests used by departments at Georgia Southern University.  There is no option to waive an admission test score requirement or to substitute an admission test for individual applicants.

* To be official the test scores must have been submitted to the Office of Admissions directly from the testing agency or recorded on an official transcript with test date of 5 years old or less.  Hand-delivered copies are accepted providing they arrive at the Office of Admissions in a sealed envelope and are 5 years old or less.

Test Score Age Limits : Testing agencies keep official test scores on file for five (5) years.   Admission test scores more than five years old will not be considered for admission.  Test score copies from previous institutions, or copies from a third party are not accepted.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam is required of all applicants whose native or primary language is not English.  A minimum TOEFL score of 80 (iBT) 213 (Computer Based Testing) or 550 (Standard Paper Based Test) is required for admission. The TOEFL will be waived for students who have graduated from a U.S. college or university.

Transcripts and Admission Grade Point Averages
Applicants must submit official transcripts from each college or university attended.  The transcripts may be sent directly to the Office of Admissions from the institution(s) attended or the student may collect the official transcripts in sealed institutional envelopes and submit them directly to the Office of Admissions.  Transcripts marked as “Issued to Student”, photocopies or presented in opened institutional envelopes are not acceptable.

If a transcript included course(s) transferred from an institution that the applicants failed to list on the application form, the Office of Graduate Admission will notify the applicant that official transcripts from that institution must be submitted.

Students may be accepted into a graduate program before degree is awarded from current program or institution.  The student is responsible for submitting the final transcript with degree awarded date before end of the first week of class.

Admission grade point averages as reflected on each institution’s transcripts are used for admission decision. In cases where the applicant has attended more than one institution, the overall grade point average is calculated by combining the individual institution’s grade point averages.  The cumulative combined grade point average (all work attempted) is used for admission consideration to all programs.

Letters of Recommendation
The Electronic Reference Form included in the application should be used for references, if required, and should be submitted from persons who can attest to your academic ability to do graduate work.

Examine the Department/Program Web Pages and/or contact the Program Director for specific guidelines about this requirement. The electronic form included in the application should be used for this if required.
