Supplemental Application Procedures

 

The following programs require additional application materials to be submitted for admission. All supplemental application materials should be submitted to the Office of Admissions unless otherwise indicated. All supplemental application materials can be located within the graduate application for admission, materials not included are denoted by *.  

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Master of Accounting, Master of Business Administration (GMAT)
Master of Science - Applied Economics online (GRE or GMAT)
Master of Business Administration - Web MBA online


 MAcc - Accounting - Forensic Accounting Concentration Only

  • Resume that includes the following: (a) academic GPA; (b) work experience; and (c) extracurricular activities
  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) that conveys the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study in forensic accounting and how admission into the program relates to the applicant's professional aspirations 
  • Two letters of recommendation that address the following: (a) the applicant's personal qualities; (b) the applicant's ability to succeed in the classroom; (c) the quality of the applicant's work product (if applicable); and (d) the applicant's career potential

MS – Applied Economics online

  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) that conveys the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study in forensic accounting and how admission into the program relates to the applicant's professional aspirations 

WebMBA online

  • Resume that includes the following: (a) academic GPA; (b) 2 years professional work experience; and (c) extracurricular activities

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Doctor of Education, Education Specialist, Master of Education, Master of Arts in Teaching (GRE or MAT)

*All Educator programs require the submission of a Disclosure & Affirmation Form and Certified Employee Background Check. Both items are located within the graduate application for admission or can be accessed at http://coe.georgiasouthern.edu/disclosure/index.html.


All MED and EDS Major Programs

  • Statement of purpose (not to exceed 250 words) that identifies the applicant’s reasons for pursuing graduate study and how admission into the program relates to the applicant’s professional aspirations. The Counselor Education and the School Psychology MED/EDS programs have additional supplemental application material requirements. See below for specifics.

MED Counselor Education

  • Statement of purpose (not to exceed 250 words) that includes a self-assessment, describing significant events that have had an impact on their development, any special activities or organization in which they have been involved, and indicating what makes the counselor education profession relevant for them. Applicants should also indicate what assets they posses that will contribute to their success as a professional, to briefly describe the qualities that define their character: values, philosophies, and attitudes, for instance, and to summarize their occupational goals, interests and indicate desired work setting. 
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • The Program Director for the MED in Counselor Education will arrange an interview with each applicant being considered for admission

MED/EDS* - School Psychology

  • Three letters of recommendation 
  • Statement of purpose (not to exceed 250 words) that addresses reasons for program selection, self evaluation and impacts school psychology should have on students

*If the applicant received the MED in School Psychology from Georgia Southern University, supplemental information is not required for the EDS application. Applicants who did not receive the MED from Georgia Southern University are required to submit the above supplemental application material for the EDS in School Psychology

MAT - Teaching

  • Present passing scores for both the GACE I Basic Skills and GACE II Content Assessment examination 
  • Statement of purpose (not to exceed 250 words) that identifies the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study and how admission into the program relates to the applicant's professional aspirations

EDD - Curriculum Studies

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of purpose (not to exceed 250 words) that identifies the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study and how admission into the program relates to the applicant's professional aspirations

  • The Admissions Committee Chair for the EDD in Curriculum Studies will arrange the writing sample and interview (if required) with each applicant being considered for admission

EDD – Educational Administration

  • Four letters of recommendation - attesting to the applicant’s potential for success in a doctoral program and for executive leadership in education 
  • Resume that must include (a) achievements of the applicant and (b) the applicant’s future direction/goals and how the degree will benefit the applicant 
  • Statement of Purpose (approximately 250 words) that outlines the applicant's future direction and how the degree will benefit the applicant 
  • The Program Director for the EDD in Education Administration will arrange the interview (if required) with each applicant being considered for admission

COLLEGE OF HEALTH & HUMAN SCIENCES  
Master of Science: Kinesiology, (GRE)
Master of Science in Nursing (GRE or MAT)
Doctor of Nursing Practice: Nursing Science online (GRE or MAT)
Master of Science: Sport Management (GRE, MAT, or GMAT)
 
MS - Kinesiology (Athletic Training, Coaching online, Exercise Science, Health & Physical Education and Sport Psychology)

  • Vitae or Resume with cover letter that includes the following: (a) work history, (b) professional experiences, (c) membership and participation in professional organizations, (d) other experiences related to the academic program, and (e) contact information for a minimum of three references
  • Statement of Purpose that outlines the applicant’s future direction/goals and how the degree will benefit the applicant

MS-Kinesiology Health & Physical Education

  • Must hold Clear & Renewable Teacher Certification (T-4 or higher) in Physical Education

MSN - Nursing

  • The Nursing Program requires applicants to submit the MSN Questionnaire located within the MSN graduate application for admission.
  • *Additional supplementary application documents directly to the MSN Program Director, School of Nursing, PO Box 8158, Statesboro, GA 30460-8158. These documents include but are not limited to: (a) Proof of current malpractice liability insurance, (b) Proof of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification, and (c) completed School of Nursing Student Health Appraisal form. The supplementary packet of forms will be sent to each applicant from the Office of the MSN Program Director or these forms can be accessed at http://chhs.georgiasouthern.edu/nursing/academic_admapplc.html 
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose
  • The Program Director for the MSN program will arrange an interview with each applicant
  • Prerequisite undergraduate courses may be required. Contact the MSN Graduate Program Director in the School of Nursing for complete information

DNP- Doctor of Nursing Practice online

  • * The Doctorate Nursing Program requires applicants to submit supplementary application documents directly to the DNP Program Director, School of Nursing, PO Box 8158, Statesboro, GA 30460-8158. These documents include but are not limited to: (a) Completed School of Nursing Graduate Application, (b) Proof of current malpractice liability insurance, (c) Proof of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification, (d) three (3) letters of recommendation, and (e) Completed School of Nursing Student Health Appraisal form. The The supplementary packet of forms will be sent to each applicant from the Office of the MSN Program Director or these forms can be accessed at http://www.georgiasouthernhealthscience.com/departments/school-of-nursing/graduate/doctor-of-nursing-practice.html.
  • The Program Director for the DNP program will arrange an interview with each applicant
  • An accredited MSN degree is required as well as prerequisite undergraduate courses. Contact the DNP Graduate Program Director in the School of Nursing for complete information

MS - Sport Management  

  • Successful completion of personal interview with members of the department graduate faculty

MA - History

  • Two letters of recommendation by individuals who are familiar with the applicant’s potential for successful graduate study 
  • Statement of purpose (approximately 250 words) outlining the applicant’s interest in graduate study in history

MA - Social Sciences

  • Statement of purpose expressing student’s aspirations

MA – Spanish

  • Two letters of recommendation by persons familiar with the applicant’s academic experience
  • Spanish Proficiency Exam administered by Program Director

MFA - Art (entrance exam scores not required)

  • Two letters of recommendation 
  • Resume 
  • Statement of purpose that includes the applicant's future direction/goals 
  • Prospective students are also required to submit a creative portfolio for consideration by the admissions committee in the department. Send portfolio directly to the MFA Program Director, Art Department, PO Box 8032, GSU, Statesboro, GA 30460. Applicants may contact the Graduate Program Director in the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art for more information on contents of the portfolio.

MM - Music (entrance exam scores not required)

  • Two letters of recommendation 
  • Requirements pertinent to the student’s intended major area of emphasis:
    *Composition – satisfactory sample scores for at least 3 different types of compositions *Music Education – L-4 certification by the State of Georgia or its equivalent
     
    *Performance – satisfactory audition with compositions from at least 3 different periods
    *Technology – proficiency exam administered by Program Director
  • This information should be sent directly to the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Music, PO Box 8052, GSU, Statesboro, GA 30460. Contact the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Music for more information about these requirements

MPA - Public Administration

  • Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant’s academic or employment experience 
  • Resume that includes relevant work experience 
  • Statement of purpose that includes career goals and objectives

MS - Psychology

  • Statement of purpose that includes a description of careers goals, reasons for applying for graduate study at Georgia Southern University, a list of academic achievements, non-academic achievements, relevant work experience, a self-evaluation of maturity level and character 
  • Three letters of recommendations from individuals who can speak of the applicant’s undergraduate academic performance, potential for graduate study, and maturity level and character

Psy.D. - Doctor of Psychology

  • Three letters of recommendation from former professors or appropriate employers/advisors 
  • Statement of purpose that includes a description of professional goals and a rationale for how the Psy.D. program will further the students' career objectives 
  • The following minimum GPA standards will be applied:  Undergraduate: 3.25,  Graduate: 3.5(4.0 Scale) 
  • A minimum grade of B in the following undergraduate courses:  Introductory Psychology, Psychological Statistics, Research Design, Abnormal Psychology 
  • Record of having taken at least two of the following courses:  Personality, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Learning and/or Cognition, Health Psychology, Tests and Measurements, Theories of Psychotherapy, Psychology of Substance Abuse 
  • Based upon the recommendation of the Admissions Committee, a personal interview with applicants may be scheduled as part of the admissions process

COLLEGE OF PUBLIC HEALTH
Master of Public Health (GRE)
Master of Health Services Administration (GRE or GMAT)
Doctorate of Public Health (GRE - General Test, GMAT, MCAT, or LSAT)

MPH - Public Health (Biostatistics, Community Health Education, Epidemiology, Environmental Health Sciences and Health Services Administration)

  • A resume that includes the following: a) educational experiences, b) professional goals and objectives, c) work history, d) professional experiences, memberships and/or participation in professional organizations, and e) experiences in public health programs.
  • Three letters of reference
  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) that conveys the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study in public health/health policy and management and how admission into the program relates to the applicant's professional aspirations. 
  • *In lieu of the above requirements, an earned doctorate or master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution may qualify the applicant for regular admission.

MHSA – Health Services Administration

  • A resume that includes the following: a) educational experiences, b) professional goals and objectives, c) work history, d) professional experiences, memberships and/or participation in professional organizations, and e) experiences in public health programs.
  • Three letters of reference
  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) that conveys the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study in public health/health policy and management and how admission into the program relates to the applicant's professional aspirations. 
  • *In lieu of the above requirements, an earned doctorate or master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution may qualify the applicant for regular admission.


Dr.PH - Doctorate of Public Health (Biostatistics, Community Health Behavior, and Public Health Leadership)

  • Official transcript(s) should show completion of at least one (1) graduate-level course in each of the following five (5) areas: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Behavior/Health Education, Health Management/Policy, and Environmental Health Sciences 
  • Courses must have been completed in the last five (5) years, and each must have been passed with a grade of "B" or better.  Applicants who have not completed these courses, but whose applications show exceptional potential for success in the Dr.PH program, may be admitted to the Dr.PH program, but will be required to complete the courses (as presented in the JPHCOPH MPH core course requirements) with grades of "B" or better before progressing to the Public Health Sciences and Public Health Practice Cores of the Dr.PH program 
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation; two must be from graduate faculty members and the third from a work supervisor 
  • Personal statement/letter of interest emphasizing reasons for pursuing the Dr.PH (Limited to a maximum of 700 words) 
  • Current curriculum vitae or resume
