Admission

To join the Center for Addiction Recovery (CAR) program, you must first be admitted to either Georgia Southern University or East Georgia College. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

Part One: University Admission

Georgia Southern University

  • The Center for Addiction Recovery cannot grant admission exceptions. You must meet Georgia Southern’s minimum academic requirements for undergraduate or graduate programs.
  • However, CAR staff can assist students with past legal issues related to addiction, provided they meet at least the minimum academic standards.
  • Please see the Georgia Southern Admissions website for detailed information on the process for various admission types (transfer, freshman, graduate, etc.).
  • For specific admission questions not answered online, email cfar@georgiasouthern.edu and we can connect you to admissions staff who have helped our students through the admission process.

East Georgia College

If you don’t meet Georgia Southern’s admission criteria, consider applying to East Georgia College. East Georgia students frequently take classes on the Georgia Southern Campus and can fully participate in CAR programs, including those held on the Georgia Southern Campus.

Bobcat to Eagle (B2E) Program

Students can co-enroll at East Georgia State College and Georgia Southern University, benefiting from lower tuition, access to Georgia Southern resources, and guaranteed credit transfer.

Eligibility: The B2E program requires acceptance to EGSC-Statesboro, enrollment in at least 4 EGSC credit hours, and an intention to transfer to Georgia Southern.

Part Two: Admission to the Center for Addiction Recovery

Contact the Center for Addiction Recovery to inform staff of your intention to apply to Georgia Southern or East Georgia and join the program. Before applying, make sure you meet the minimum requirements.

Minimum requirements for CAR Admission

  • Admission to Georgia Southern University or East Georgia College.
  • In active recovery from alcohol or drug addiction with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder.
  • Commitment to maintaining recovery

The Center for Addiction Recovery does not discriminate based on sex, race, gender, sexuality, religion or beliefs. Due to budgetary constraints, CAR only serves students whose primary diagnosis is substance use disorder. Students can simultaneously be in recovery from other addictive disorders.

Application Process

  • Complete a CAR application and schedule an interview with a staff member.
  • Contact cfar@georgiasouthern.edu for application details.

Academic Expectations

CAR students must maintain a minimum institutional GPA of 2.5.
